Protecta Mineral Fibre BIO is a flexible, high-temperature-resistant insulation mat designed for use as a backing material in firestop systems and for thermal insulation in extreme environments.
Manufactured from alkaline earth silicate (AES) fibres, it withstands continuous exposure to temperatures up to 1100 °C. The material offers low thermal conductivity, minimal heat storage, and excellent resistance to thermal shock, making it a safe and durable choice for fire protection and insulation.
The mat is completely non-combustible, free from hazardous substances, and safe to handle and install.
Typical applications include:
- Backing behind sealants and firestop systems
- Thermal insulation for ovens, chimneys, steam, and gas turbines
- A reliable alternative to stone wool in high-temperature environments
Mineral Fibre BIO can be cut, shaped, and adjusted directly on-site, offering a fast and user-friendly solution for both new construction and refurbishment projects. As a backing, it provides the correct depth and support for firestop products while contributing to tested and proven fire resistance.

Can I use Mineral Fibre instead of stone wool in a firestop?
Yes, you can use Protecta Mineral Fibre Bio instead of standard stone wool. It is made from AES fibres with superior fire resistance and has been tested with our firestopping products.
Important: If the documentation specifically states Protecta Backing Material, do not use standard stone wool. You must use the specified product to comply with testing and ensure proper fire resistance.
