- Clean the substrate and remove loose paint flakes before application.
- Normally applied without primer, with certain exceptions. Must not be applied directly onto glossy existing coatings. Knots and resin bleed-through must be sealed prior to painting.
- Can be applied by spray, roller or brush.
- When using roller or brush, dilute with water (5% recommended, max. 20%) and adjust wet film thickness (WFT) accordingly.
- The required wet film thickness for the desired fire performance is specified in the technical datasheet.
- Application in a single coat is possible when using spray equipment and correct WFT.
Application properties:
- Application temperature: minimum +10 °C
- Tack-free after 1 hour at +22 °C
- Fully cured after 1.5 hours at +22 °C

Interior Paint FR-1 is a solvent-free decorative fire protection paint that forms an insulating layer in the event of fire, delaying ignition and fire spread. It significantly improves the fire safety of combustible timber surfaces without altering the construction.
The paint is developed as a one-coat system with high coverage and durability. It provides a matt, smooth and non-reflective surface that is easy to clean. Particularly suitable for areas subject to wear, such as corridors, stairwells and escape routes.

FR-1 can be applied to both new and existing surfaces and can be used as a top coat over previously painted substrates to provide older buildings with a documented improvement in fire safety.
Which timber-based materials can Interior Paint FR-1 be used on?
Interior Paint FR-1 can be applied to any timber-based material with a minimum thickness of 10 mm and a density greater than 510 kg/m³. Different materials provide different fire performance, please see the technical datasheet for details.
What fire performance can be achieved with Protecta Interior Paint FR-1?
Depending on the substrate, surface treatment, material thickness and density, the paint can achieve fire class B-s1,d0 and, in certain constructions, EI 30. Refer to the technical datasheet for documented solutions.
Can Interior Paint FR-1 be used in damp areas?
No. The product is intended for normal indoor environments and is not recommended for areas with high or persistent humidity.
What is the coverage per square metre?
Consumption depends on the application method and required wet film thickness (WFT). Typical coverage is approximately 2.7–4.5 m² per litre, depending on substrate and fire classified solution. See the technical datasheet for details and film thickness requirements.
Is Interior Paint FR-1 available in all colours?
No. Interior Paint FR-1 is supplied in a white base, meaning only light colours can be achieved.
Protecta Interior Paint FR-1 has European Technical Assessments – ETA 25/0427 and ETA 21/0044 – issued under EU Regulation 305/2011, based on 305/2011, based on EAD 350865-00-1106 and EAD 210005-00-0505.
The product is tested according to EN 13823 and EN ISO 11925 in conjunction with EN 312.
