WHAT IS PROTECTA FR BOARD
Protecta FR Board or fire batt, is a high-density stone wool core over-coated with Protecta FR Coating, designed to significantly reduce permeability and enhance fire resistance. It is available in multiple configurations, including 50mm single and double-sided, 60mm, 80mm, and 100mm double-sided.
The FR Board has been extensively tested for installation across a variety of services and substrates, including:
- Rigid walls and floors
- Flexible walls
- Multi-service penetrations
- Blank seals
- Raised access floor barriers
It provides up to 4 hours of fire resistance while also maintaining acoustic performance, air tightness, and reducing unwanted heat loss.
KEY UPGRADES AND APPROVALS
The latest updates to Protecta FR Board bring a host of improved approvals and expanded applications, including:
Structural & Installation Enhancements
- Timber studs can now be used in drywalls without minimum distance from the fire seal.
- Service cross-section limits removed, allowing for greater flexibility in installation.
- New rules for interrupted cable carriers added.
- Iron pipes now included alongside steel pipes.
- Hollow floor installation instructions added to technical assessments (TAs).
- Raised access floor barriers now fully approved (installation instructions in progress).
Enhanced Linear Seal Approvals
- Timber frame linear seals in walls (horizontal & vertical applications).
- Steel, aluminium & plasterboard linear seals in rigid walls.
- Timber linear seals in floors.
Expanded Fire Ratings & Service Approvals
- EI 120 classification for cables and cable trays in drywalls.
- Trunking approvals in walls (cables to be added in the next update).
- Polybutylene pipe approvals in walls.
- New approvals for key pipe brands, including:
- Huliot Ultra Silent pipes in walls.
- Valsir PP3, BLACKFIRE, and TRIPLUS pipes in walls.
- PVC pipes with reduced wall thickness now approved.
- Copper pipes with phenolic foam insulation now approved.
- Alupex pipes with glass-wool insulation now approved.
- PP pipes in framed apertures now approved.
- Upgraded fire classification for PE & PP pipes:
- Ø 315mm PE & Ø 400mm PP pipes now approved for walls.
- EI 120 classification for bus-bars in walls.
- Copper pipes up to Ø 159mm approved for walls.
- Steel, copper, and alupex pipes with glass wool insulation now approved.
- Seven additional composite pipes approved for floors.
- Expanded approvals for large pipes in floors, including Ø 160mm PVC & PE pipes.
- Improved approvals for pipes with elastomeric & glass wool insulation in floors.
