Protecta FR Acrylic is a versatile firestop sealant designed to prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases through joints and service penetrations in fire-rated walls and floors. It also helps maintain acoustic performance and airtightness within the building envelope.

This water-based sealant cures on exposure to air, forming a durable and slightly flexible joint capable of accommodating minor structural movement over time. In the event of a fire, FR Acrylic intumesces—expanding at approximately 180 °C, to create a robust barrier that effectively blocks flames and smoke.

Typical Applications

  • Sealing around pipes and cables in walls and floors
  • Firestopping perimeter gaps and linear joints
  • Ideal for hospitals, schools, apartments, offices, and other commercial or residential buildings

FR Acrylic can be applied directly or used in combination with a suitable backing material to ensure correct joint depth and minimise shrinkage during curing. Depending on the application and dimensions, it provides up to 4 hours of documented fire resistance.

What types of pipes and cables are approved with FR Acrylic?

FR Acrylic is tested and approved for:

  • Cables and conduits
  • Steel pipes
  • Copper pipes
  • Alupex pipes
  • PVC, PE, and PP plastic pipes
  • PEX-in-PEX systems

See installation instructions for details and dimensions.

In which types of constructions has FR Acrylic been tested?

Protecta FR Acrylic has been fire tested in the following types of constructions:

  • Concrete and masonry walls
  • Drywall partitions
  • Solid timber (CLT) walls
  • Floor constructions made of concrete, masonry, and CLT

What fire resistance does Protecta FR Acrylic achieve?

From EI 30 to EI 240, depending on the type of service penetration, dimensions, insulation, joint size, and type of construction. For detailed approvals, please refer to the installation guidelines.

Can FR Acrylic be used around multiple pipes in one opening?

Generally, only one pipe per opening is allowed. There are exceptions for cable bundles. In timber constructions, there are no minimum spacing requirements between openings, so pipes may be placed side-by-side horizontally in the wall. Always refer to the approved details in the manual.

What is the minimum joint width?

FR Acrylic is intended for gaps between 10 and 30 mm. In some cases, openings below 10 mm may be acceptable if depth and backing are sufficient. Note: For plastic pipes, 10 mm is a strict minimum. This is detailed in the approved drawings.

Can FR Acrylic be used in damp areas?

No, FR Acrylic is intended for dry indoor environments. In areas with high humidity, use Protecta FR IPT, which is designed for such conditions. Alternatively, paint over the cured joint to protect against moisture.

Protecta FR Acrylic has European Technical Assessments – ETA 23/0257 and ETA 22/0735 – issued under EU Regulation 305/2011, based on EAD 350454-00-1104 and EAD 350141-00-1106.
