Protecta FR Board is a proven solution for restoring and maintaining fire resistance in rated walls and floors where pipes, cables, and other services pass through. It prevents the spread of fire, smoke, and heat while also enhancing sound insulation, ensuring the structure retains its technical performance.
The board’s high-density stone wool core, coated with Protecta FR Coating, creates a robust barrier against heat and smoke. This design reduces heat transfer and delays temperature rise through service penetrations.
Typical applications include:
- Firestopping around pipes and cables in walls and floors
- Tight installation spaces and refurbishment projects
- Hospitals, schools, apartment buildings, and technical service rooms
FR Board installs easily on most substrates and offers excellent flexibility for retrofit work. In confined spaces, it can also be surface-mounted, making it an ideal problem-solver on site.
For a complete and documented firestop system, FR Board must always be used in combination with Protecta® FR Acrylic, ensuring full sealing around services and at joints with adjacent structures. Once cured, the system is moisture-, UV-, and frost-resistant, delivering durable and reliable fire protection in demanding environments.

What is the maximum opening size FR Board can be used for?
The board is tested for wall openings up to 1200 mm height × unlimited width.
All dimensions assume installation according to approved details. See documentation.
Which pipes and cables is FR Board approved for?
Protecta FR Board is tested and approved with:
- Cables and conduits
- Cable trays
- Bus-bars
- Steel pipes
- Copper pipes
- Alupex pipes

Also suitable for hollow-core slabs and ribbed decks
Can the board be installed from one side only?
Yes, see our technical manual for firestopping penetrations, available in the members zone.
How many pipes can go through one opening?
To ensure correct firestopping and documented performance, the combined cross-sectional area of all services – including any insulation – must not exceed 60% of the total opening area.
Can the board be mounted on the surface of the wall?
Yes, FR Board can be surface-mounted, but this method is limited to a fire rating of EI 120.
