Protecta FR Graphite Plate is designed to maintain the fire resistance of flexible gypsum wall constructions where electrical wall boxes penetrate the wall. It is particularly suited to installations where conduits and cables pass between wall boxes, including back-to-back box arrangements, and helps preserve the documented fire performance of the partition.
The self-adhesive plate is manufactured from an advanced graphite-based intumescent material. In fire conditions, the material expands rapidly to fill the wall box and seal the opening, helping to prevent the passage of flames and smoke through the wall. Depending on the wall construction and wall box type, the system can provide fire resistance up to EI 120.
Typical applications:
- Wall boxes in fire-rated gypsum walls
- Electrical installations in residential and commercial buildings
- Schools, hospitals and other public buildings
Which wall boxes is FR Graphite Plate approved for?
Protecta FR Graphite Plate has been tested and documented with a range of electrical wall boxes from manufacturers including ELKO, Schneider, ABB, Etman, FUGA and Rutab.
Approval does not apply to wall box type alone. Each wall box must be assessed as part of a complete tested system, including the wall construction and installation arrangement.
Always check the latest technical data sheet before specification or installation to confirm that the selected wall box and wall build-up are within the approved scope.
Which constructions can the product be used in?
The product is tested in gypsum walls with a minimum thickness of 75 mm, with steel or timber studs and at least one layer of 12.5 mm gypsum board on each side.
What fire resistance can be achieved?
Depending on the wall box, plate size and wall construction, fire resistance from EI 30 up to EI 120 can be achieved.
Can wall boxes be installed back-to-back?
Yes. FR Graphite Plate is tested and approved for back-to-back installation of wall boxes.
Does the product also provide sound reduction?
Yes. Sound reduction up to RW 69 dB is documented for single-sided installation in gypsum walls.
