The Palm Tower is a 52-storey five-star hotel and residential development in the heart of Palm Jumeirah. The development features award winning architectural design and the tower is one of Dubai’s most prestigious addresses.

It comprises of 432 spacious, elegant apartments and a new five-star hotel, St. Regis Dubai – The Palm. It features outstanding amenities including one of the world’s highest infinity pools on the 50th floor, two swimming pools at podium level, a 51st floor signature restaurant and a viewing deck on the 52nd floor boasting spectacular views in every direction.

Project Overview

The Palm Tower, a soaring 52-story landmark at the prestigious Palm Jumeirah, sets a new standard for luxury living in Dubai. It features 432 fully furnished luxury residences and incorporates a five-star hotel, the St. Regis Dubai, The Palm. This iconic development integrates world-class amenities including the AURA Skypool, one of the world’s highest infinity pools, and offers breathtaking panoramic views from its exclusive observation deck, The View at The Palm.

ChallengeIn constructing such a high-profile development, ensuring top-tier fire safety standards was paramount after the fire in 2016 was attributed to aluminium cladding. The UAE updated its Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice, prohibiting the use of aluminium composite panel cladding. The Palm Tower required a reliable fire-stopping solution that could meet rigorous safety regulations and protect the building’s intricate design elements, without compromising the architectural integrity.

Solution

Protecta FR Acrylic, supplied by Emirates Technotrade, was selected for its exceptional fire-resistant properties. This product is known for its ability to seal compartments and prevent the spread of fire and smoke, thereby enhancing the structural integrity and safety of the building. Protecta FR Acrylic was utilised extensively throughout the construction phase, especially in critical areas prone to fire risks.

Implementation

The application of Protecta FR Acrylic involved strategic placement within the building’s infrastructure, focusing on joints and openings where fire integrity and insulation were crucial. The collaboration between Trojan General Contracting, RSP & AI Jadeed Consultants, and Emirates Technotrade ensured that the fire-stopping measures were seamlessly integrated into the building process without disrupting the overall construction schedule.

Outcome

The use of Protecta FR Acrylic in The Palm Tower has significantly bolstered the building’s resilience against fire, contributing to a safer environment for its residents and visitors.
