Protecta® FR Adhesive is a high-performance fire-rated adhesive designed for extreme temperature environments. It withstands temperatures exceeding 1200 °C and cures to form a durable, cement-like seal that is gas- and smoke-tight.
Engineered for both bonding and sealing in fire-exposed areas, FR Adhesive enhances the fire resistance of constructions while maintaining a strong, reliable bond even under intense heat.
Typical Applications
- Bonding and insulating steel structures without the need for welding pins
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, furnaces, and exhaust systems
- Sealing or filling joints in areas exposed to very high temperatures
FR Adhesive can be used as both an adhesive and a filler, making it versatile for a wide range of fire protection solutions. In the event of a fire, it helps maintain the integrity of seals and bonds without detachment, ensuring long-lasting protection.
What materials can I use FR Adhesive on?
FR Adhesive is suitable for stone, metal, wood, concrete, cement, gypsum, stone wool, ceramics, and other inorganic materials. It should not be used directly on plastic or painted surfaces without separate adhesion testing.
What temperatures can the adhesive withstand?
Protecta FR Adhesive can withstand continuous heat exposure above 1200 °C.
How long does the adhesive take to dry?
FR Adhesive is tack-free after 60 minutes and gains good bonding strength after 4 hours. Full cure is typically achieved within 48 hours.
Can it be used in cold environments?
It must not be exposed to sub-zero temperatures before it is fully cured. Once cured, it can withstand temperatures down to -50 °C.
How was the fire resistance for insulation bonding documented?
Protecta FR Adhesive was tested on I- and H-beams as well as round and rectangular steel columns, where stone wool boards were bonded using FR Adhesive without mechanical fastening. Tests showed R 120 fire resistance, outperforming traditional weld pin systems. The solution is documented in ETA 21/0694 and was tested with 20–40 mm thick mineral wool at 160 kg/m³. The test results may also be applied to other insulation types if the same density and fire-rated properties are verified. The fire resistance is limited to the properties of the insulation used.
How much adhesive is needed per square metre?
Typical consumption is approx. 1 litre of Protecta FR Adhesive per m² when applied with a notched trowel (5 x 5 mm). Consumption may vary depending on surface and application technique. Be sure to calculate extra for uneven or rough surfaces.
Protecta FR Adhesive has an European Technical Assessment ETA 21/0694 – issued under EU Regulation 305/2011, based on EAD 350141-00-1106.
Tested according to EN 13381-4.
