- Surfaces must be cleaned prior to installation.
- For porous substrates, light surface greasing of the putty is recommended to ensure good adhesion.
- All bare metal in contact with the putty must be protected against corrosion.
- No minimum joint depth or backing material is required.
- Can be installed from one or both sides, depending on the documented solution.
- The putty cord is hand-moulded and installed externally around the penetration. It must be pressed firmly against both the service and the wall/floor to form a tight V-shaped seal.
- Suitable for pipe and cable penetrations in gypsum, masonry and concrete.
Application properties:
- No curing time: remains permanently flexible
- Can be removed and re-formed if required
Installation Video
Small gaps around technical penetrations are a well-known challenge in fire protection. In such cases, it is often impossible to achieve the required joint depth using traditional fire sealants. Protecta FR Putty Cord has been developed specifically for these situations.
The putty is a fire- and sound-rated, non-curing compound that is hand-moulded without tools and installed externally around the penetration. Its permanent flexibility allows the putty to be removed, reused and re-formed if required, while still providing a secure seal against flames, smoke, air and sound.
The product is supplied as pre-formed cords and is tested for a wide range of penetration types.
Typical applications:
- Small pipe and cable penetrations
- Confined installations with minimal annular gaps
- Refurbishment projects where existing openings are difficult to remediate
Which pipes and cables is FR Putty Cord approved for?
Protecta FR Putty Cord is tested and approved with:
- Cables
- Steel pipes
- Copper pipes
